Progress on John Heald's Darjeeling B-class
The Duplex boiler kit is well on the way to being built under a DRAFT Australian Boiler code and until the boiler is proved after steam tests a final code will not be produced. The boiler will be 10" in diameter and just under the 50L mark to comply with our NZ code for capacities. With this limit the boiler will have a shorter barrel with dummy extension towards the smokebox.
Wheels are 9.5" in diameter, cranks are also large and were difficult to machine in my lathe, even with a 10" swing. Words and photos by John Heald |
