The club open weekend

We had our annual open weekend on the 4th and 5th December and had a good turn-out of visiting locos. There were no home-club locos running and all services were run by the visitors.

We hope you enjoy these photos as much as we enjoyed the weekend.

Brett Lilley from Whakatane pondering water levels, fire, etc. on Dave Fitton's NZR Fa-class 0-6-2T

The steaming bays were kept busy all weekend (Dave Giles from Manukau and John Harman from Havelock North)

Don Moffatt's superb NZR C-class is always a joy to see running (built by Paul Newton of the Rotorua MES)

Jim McLean from Manukau with his variation on a Phantom "WEE JOCK"

These guys aren't lying down on the job, there was a "spot of bother" with the pair of points (turnout) leading into the station. Ever noticed that it doesn't matter how much time you spend on something (like the track in this case), there's always "something" that shows up when you don't need it.

John Harman and his L'il LIMA from Havelock North

This young lad was the winner of our raffle and wouldn't let anyone else carry "his" prize! - this photo by John Heald

Progress on John Heald's B-class

The motion bracket in place

Here we see the boiler just being lined up to ensure all is OK The boiler passed its firing tests with flying colours and crack testing showed up nothing. Just awaiting the final code and should have a certificate early in the new year.
